This important archaeological area was bought by the Town Hall of the town of Sorrento to be turned into a natural Park. This makes it possible to meet, in the wonderful area, with a great number of birds, mammals, snakes, amphibians, carnivores and other specimens of species of the local fauna.
Besides the presence of the ruins of a wonderful villa of Roman times, the area of the so-called baths of Regina Giovanna - which is at Capo di Sorrento – distinguishes itself also for the peculiarity of its animal and floral species which make it similar to a real natural paradise.
In particular, in the world of terrestrial animals, this area is a real heavenly spot.
This is also thanks to the fact that a very large part of the territory has been recently bought by the town hall of Sorrento with the declared intention to create a protected park.
As it is in one of the ideal passage spots for the migratory avifauna which uses the Mediterranean routs in its movements between Africa and Europe right in this area, for example, it is possible to meet with a lot of birds. Among these ones, those spending almost half a year in this area there are: the kestrel, the barn owl, the horned owl, the tawny owl, the raven, the pied woodpecker, the blackcap, the wryneck, the woodcock, the cuckoo, the great tit, the greenfinch, the goldfinch, the nightingale, the redwing, the chaffinch and many other species.
Among the mammals, instead, there are a lot of hedgehogs and moles, whilst among the carnivores there is a significant presence of foxes, stone martens and weasels.
Also in this area it is not difficult to meet with snakes and saurians. Among the former ones it is easy enough to meet with specimens of coluber, elaphe quatuorlineata and natrix natrix (even though, much more rarely we can meet with vipers). Among the latter ones, instead, there are a lot of lizards, green lizards and geckos.
Those who love amphibians, moreover, can admire some specimens of fire salamander, whilst those who are in search of anurans, can find several Greek frogs or common toads.
